Founded in 1979 by Jock and Betty Leslie-Melville, the Giraffe Centre began its journey as a rescue mission for the endangered Rothschild giraffe. When they learned that this particular species was at risk of extinction, with only about 120 individuals left in a ranch in Western Kenya, the Leslie-Melvilles took prompt action. They began with a young calf, Daisy, and soon the conservation vision expanded.
